Rap and boy bands. Two drastically different areas of music in two drastically different eras. Who would've thought they would one day come together? Okay, maybe boy band is a stretch, but it is technically boys in a band, right?
Rap Collectives are becoming more and more prevalent each coming year. From groups like Odd Future and Brockhampton, it seems like this style and structure of music might just be the next big thing. And speaking of the next big thing, coming out of Athens, Georgia is a rap/punk/rock collective known as Aldente. Yep, they cover it all. This upbeat and lively group consists of six members: Bubba Deluxe, Squid the Kid, Big Al, General Gyro, Hendawg, and Virginia Slim. The collective is stated to be founded by Bubba Deluxe and Squid the Kid while in their college dorm room. On January 22, 2017, they posted their first song, "Hank Hill" on Soundcloud. Nine more singles were released after this debut, and later their first album, "King Da Ka" was released in 2019. Since then more and more singles, as well as their 2020 album, "Perfect Smash" have been released by Aldente, leaving the public with plenty to consume (get it?).
I heard about this group through friends and Athens locals. Every recommendation I received was extremely passionate and supported with songs I should listen to. I personally enjoyed their music as well, it gave off energetic and exciting energy, as well as a satire and almost "comic relief" attitude.
Linked below is their Instagram!
Goodbye.
