Coming out of Beckley, West Virginia is the young and determined rapper, Yung Hellian. At only 17 years old, this high schooler is making waves within his community. His first public song included a single titled, "Foreign Cars" in February of 2019. Since then, the young rapper has been nothing but an example of growth. Hellian is currently holding over 300 followers on Soundcloud and a countless number of releases.

As shown through his lyrics and themes, the life of Yung Hellian does not include something considered "easy". Growing up with an absent father addicted to drugs, Hellian needed an outlet. "One day when I was in about 1st grade he showed me “Not Afraid” by Eminem," he said. "I was immediately hooked. I’ve been writing my feelings into songs since then." This is what became his way out. "I’m not good with expressing my emotions so music is the only way to get it out of my system." Though, his struggles do not stop there. Hellian grew up with a speech impediment, leaving him with a stutter to this day.

When it comes to influences, Yung Hellian has a wide variety of personal icons. This consists of rappers such as Eminem, Lil Wayne, Lil Peep, Daddex, and Juice WRLD. Along with this includes rock influences such as Three Days Grace and Hollywood Undead. This was due to his father being a guitar player and introducing him to these bands at a very young age.

In the interview process, I was able to ask Hellian what he believed was the hardest aspect of being a new rapper in today's musical world. His answer included the theme of misunderstanding. "Everybody wants to be a rapper nowadays so it’s really hard to stand out or be taken seriously from the others," he said. "Another big issue is the 'Soundcloud Rapper' label being a bad thing. SoundCloud is a good platform to start on and I’ll never throw dirt on it. Some people just never want to take a chance and explore anything new."

Personal and professional pushback has never stopped this rapper, though, as he still releases music regularly. When asked about his songwriting process, Yung Hellian stated, "One of the most important parts about making a song for me is being relatable," he said. "I try my best to convey my feelings as best as I can so that whoever is listening and going through something similar can feel like they’re not alone. All I want to do is help and comfort people."
